CERT is a free comprehensive course and requires attendance of all units for
certification.
Following a major disaster, first responders may not be able to meet the needs of the entire community due to the numbers of victims, communication failures and road blockages. People will have to rely on each other for help in meeting immediate life saving and life sustaining needs. Most neighbors can be expected to volunteer assistance but may lack the knowledge and skills required to do the most good for the greatest number.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training educates citizens about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Using the training from the classroom andhands-on exercises, CERT members possess the decision-making and physical skills to help family and neighbors without placing themselves in unnecessary danger. Instructors with the Police Department, Fire Department and CERT will cover;

Types of Disasters and Basic Preparedness
CERT Organization
Fire Suppression
Medical First Aid and Triage
Light Search and Rescue
Disaster Psychology
Practical Mock Disaster Exercise
The 20 hour course is limited to 25 students per class and requires attendance throughout. There is no charge for the training. Following participation in a mock disaster, graduates are recognized as CERT team members through Homeland Security and are invited to join prior graduates who form the Collierville Citizens CERT Advisory Board. For additional information, please contact…
The next class is open for registration to residents of Collierville and those who work in Collierville.
All
units of CERT will be offered and posted on this website at a later date. Check
the website often for class postings and updates.
