We had a great response for the 2007 National Night Out Against Crime. We would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication to this program.

The 24th Annual National Night Out celebration, a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, was held August 1 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Last year, 60 parties registered for the event.

National Night Out is designed to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs.
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods celebrate National Night Out with a variety of events and activities such as:

block parties
cookouts
visits from local police and town leaders
parades
flashlight walks
contests
youth programs

National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from National Night Out will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.

If you wish to participate in next years celebration, please call the Collierville Police Department's Special Operations Division at 457-2562, Lt. Norman Dixon or Bob White, and let them know that your neighborhood, block or subdivision desires to participate.
