Special Citizen Volunteer Program

PURPOSE
The Special Citizen's Volunteer Program (formally the Senior Citizen Volunteer Program (SCVP) is established as a well organized program which will enable the Collierville Police Department to continue to provide not only the essential services necessary for the community, but special services such as Assisting Motorists and Vacation Checks. Collierville has been a relatively crime-free community but with the tremendous growth we have been experiencing, we will soon reach a point where some of the services we now provide will not be possible without the help of the community and those who volunteer their time to assist us. Because of this increasing growth, we feel there are those in this community who although they are retired, might have the time and talent necessary to help the Collierville Police Department continue to provide the services the community desires. The Special Citizen's Volunteer Program (SCVP) will provide man-hours in the areas of the Administrative Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Division, Training/Public Relations Unit and Communications Unit.
BACKGROUND
The Concept of the SCVP, as it pertains to the Collierville Police Department, is two-fold in nature. First it will give added visibility to the Police Department through use of volunteers in marked cars, performing NON-ENFORCEMENT service-oriented duties, releasing the commissioned officers to Perform duties which require the need of sworn personnel. Second, the able bodied citizens, who wish to make a contribution of their time and talents toward a community service, will have the opportunity to do so.
|
QUALIFICATIONS Although Volunteers WILL NOT be sworn police officers, there are still some qualifications which will have to be met. Must be in good physical health |
| UNIFORMS Volunteers who will be working in areas which require a uniform, such as Communications, Patrol and the Training/Public Relations Divisions, will be furnished uniforms by the Police Department which will identify them as members of the SCVP. Volunteers who wear uniforms must supply their own black leather, plain toe, low-quarter shoes or boots and black socks. |
|
TRAINING Volunteers will be trained in General and Specialized topics prior to beginning work in the program. All Volunteers will receive training in: 1. General overview of the Collierville Police Department |
SCHEDULES Volunteers are needed as follows: 1. Days: Monday through Saturday |
