The Mounted Patrol Unit is comprised of one specialist that works on horse back for visibility, mobility, and crowd control. He can be seen during special events such as football games, Fair on the Square, and the Christmas Parade. He also patrols the park systems during the summer months and the shopping centers during the holiday shopping periods.
The School Resource Officers or SRO Unit is comprised of (4)
specially trained officers that are assigned to the Elementary and Middle Schools of
Collierville. These officers operate within
their respective schools and participate in law enforcement related class presentations,
advisory sessions between students, parents and staff, extra curricular events, and are
responsible for documenting intelligence and reportable offenses that occur at their
schools. Collierville is the first agency in
Tennessee to offer this program at the Elementary level.
The Bike Unit
provides the Town of Collierville with a unique tool, which can be utilized to accomplish
a wide variety of tasks. The officers who
make up the Bike Unit rely on a strong community oriented policing philosophy to
accomplish their goals. Due to the
units unique capabilities and mobility, they are often used for special events
details, business and neighborhood patrol, traffic enforcement, parks and greenbelt
patrol, bicycle safety presentations as well as directed patrols to detect and observe
numerous illegal activities. Positions on the
Bike Unit are the School Resource Officers that work the unit during the summer when the
schools are out.
The
School Crossing Guard Unit is comprised of (8) civilian personnel that are trained in
traffic control and direction and are assigned to the crossing zones at schools located in
Collierville. The Crossing Guards primary goal is to ensure the safety of our children and
assist them in the safe arrival to school.

The Department has a Reserve Program, which is comprised of officers who work on a volunteer basis after having undergone an extensive basic training curriculum. Each year Reserve Officers assist commissioned officers in calls for service and apprehensions. Reserve officers also participate in many special events during the year such as the Collierville Christmas Parade, football games and Fair on the Square.

The Jail Unit is staffed by 11 jailers. The jail is staffed 24 hours a day and is classed a Type 2 facility by the State of Tennessee. Each jailer is certified by the Tennessee Corrections Institute and receives annual training once a year. There is currently 12 beds, 8 for males and 4 for females. There is also two holding cells.
The Law Enforcement Explorer Program is a volunteer organization for promising young adults, ages 14-20, who are interested in exploring law enforcement as a career. During the coming year, as a Collierville Police Explorer, you will have the opportunity to work special assignments, work with all divisions of the Collierville Police Department, and visit other law enforcement agencies and criminal justice systems. This opportunity to work with the Collierville Police Department will help you get first hand insight into a potential career in law enforcement.
The Special Citizen Volunteer Program enables senior citizens to assist the Police Department in many ways. While SCVP members are not sworn Police Officers, they respond to assist motorist calls, vacation checks and other routine duties which allows commissioned officers to remain on patrol. Senior Citizen Volunteers also assist the Administrative Division in the Records section by typing and filing reports.
